[00:00:00] “Ignite Your Life” Fuses Faith and Cars
We all know Barry Meguiar for the prolific “Car Crazy” series, and amazing products of Meguiar’s, but did you know he’s also well versed in the word of God? Revival Outside the Walls Founder, Barry Meguiar, joins us on the Shell Pioneering Performance Stage at SEMA 2018 to spread the word about his newest venture, “Ignite Your Life”, which combines the graces of faith and the passions of the automotive hobby. Barry has made it his goal to reach those who are looking for God, but need someone to show them the way, and some pretty sweet rides, too. Listen in to learn more about Barry’s newest spiritual adventure.
[00:07:37] Meguiar’s – A Family of Car Lovers
From humble beginnings, the car hobby has exploded into a multi-billion dollar industry, and Meguiar’s President, Barry Meguiar, has been there for it all. Barry recalls the very first SEMA Show, and the precursor which was hosted by Noel Carpenter in 1963. Watching it grow from an event with 12 vendors to a juggernaut, hosting 200,000 guests from 110 countries leaves Barry in awe. Changing gears, we discover how a family-lead Meguiar’s spreads the passion in over 30 countries and breaks down all barriers, celebrating what we all love, cars. Indeed, the Meguiar’s family is one with a deep rooted connection to the automotive hobby, as Barry’s daughter, Nicole Meguiar, hosts the Benedict Castle Concours in Riverside, California annually in March/April, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for Teen Challenge every year. Learn more about this ‘car crazy’ family.
[00:12:31] Catchin’ Up with Wayne Carini
Last time we heard from “Chasing Classic Cars” Host, Wayne Carini, he had a 1954 Studebaker on the lawn at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance that ended up taking second place! Not bad for a Studebaker, eh? That’s just the kind of quality we’ve come to expect from Velocity’s most famous mustache, which is why it’s no surprise that the drummer of The Cars, David Robinson, has commissioned a De Tomaso Mangusta. Learn what other projects Wayne has coming down the pike.
[00:19:52] How to Value Your Classic Car
So you’ve got your classic car all fixed up and you’re ready to cash in on your hard work, but do you know how much its worth? ClassicCars.com President and Founder, Roger Falcione, says the number one mistake people make is thinking that their car is worth more than it is. Thankfully, with a roster of over 50,000 cars, ClassicCars.com works as a great comparison tool. “Chasing Classic Cars” host, Wayne Carini, agrees but adds that he sometimes is forced to rely on his gut feeling. “Wheeler Dealers” co-host, Mike Brewer, offers this advice: just because a similar car is on the market for $100,000 doesn’t mean it will sell for $100,000, reference past auctions to see what your car is actually selling for. Hear more tips for valuing your vintage vehicle.
[00:26:48] Lead Foot Brewer and Our Wives’ Cars
Rare cars bring a unique kind of happiness to auto enthusiasts, whether you buy them for $1,000,000 (or $5,000) on ClassicCars.com, or take your friend’s 1959 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa for a spin. “Chasing Classic Cars” Host, Wayne Carini, warns against loaning a prized Ferrari to a friend with a story of the time he and “Wheeler Dealers” co-Host, Mike Brewer, drove together in a parade; but if you think Mike is a crazy driver, you should see his wife. Michelle Brewer has been said to be the world greatest unknown F1 racer and can turn any car into a blazing fast fireball. We learn what our favorite car-celebs’ wives drive day-to-day. Changing gears, Legendary Car Customizer John D’Agostino, reveals what he and his wife drive, and gives us an update on his latest project cars. Tune in for more.
[00:35:53] Third Gen Nova on Iron Resurrection
What is “Iron Resurrection”, you ask? Well, in case you’ve been living under a rock, “Iron Resurrection” is one of MotorTrend’s hottest new car restoration shows and follows the work of Hosts and Martin Bros Customs Co-Owners, Joe and Amanda Martin. Cast member, Jayson “Shag” Arrington, fills us in on the Season 3 finale and its third generation Chevrolet Nova. Also, listen in and find out what the cast’s favorite cars are.
[00:42:13] Show Up and be Ready to Succeed
When opportunity knocks, you better be ready to answer the door. Don Schumacher Racing NHRA Top Fuel Champion, Antron Brown, shares how a little luck, and a lot of stick-to-itiveness got him a position on a professional racing team. The most important thing is showing up and making sure you’re prepared to face the challenges in front of you. Hard work is a must, but most importantly, you have to put yourself into uncomfortable situations to succeed. Tune in for more tips on how to be successful in your chosen career path.
[00:49:15] God, Family, and the Best Equipment
Consistency over intensity. When you show up on time and ready to go every day, you convey your worth and dependability. NHRA Top Fuel Champion, Antron Brown, likens good workers to performance car parts; when you’re making over 12,000 horsepower, you want reliable, trustworthy gear, and not just for winning races, it’s your life behind the steering wheel. Changing gears, Antron discusses the importance of God and family in his support system – they are why he strives to be great every day. Also, learn why Antron doesn’t worry about past mistakes in his life.
[00:54:44] Lowriders Strive to be Unique
Before Jeeps or Japanese imports, lowriders were the original customized cars, and are still some of the most beautiful aftermarket accomplishments in the world. LOWRIDER Editor, Joe Ray, has been attending SEMA for 20 years, and the designs, ideas, and innovations never cease to amaze him. The lowrider community is uniquely rooted in classic cars, due to the fact that newer model cars just don’t have the same body length or shape that allows for the wild builds that they’re accustomed to. Also, hear about Joe Ray’s Cadillac Eldorado, affectionately dubbed the “Shelldorado”, on display at the Shell stage this year, and what drove him to create this unique work of art.
[01:02:05] Tommy Pike Finds Inspiration Everywhere
Sometimes the best inspiration a car customizer can have comes from outside the industry. Luckily, Tommy Pike Customs Car Customizer, Tommy Pike, can find inspiration in anything from Chicago architecture, to the flowing SEMA decorative fabric, and all of the vehicles on display. With a very detail oriented laser-focus, Tommy Pike Customs, has built a reputation of doing unique builds; and as such, Tommy Pike chooses his clients wisely. Also, find out why Tommy works hard to preserve the love for the automotive craft, and what his biggest business blunder was.
[01:11:28] What Makes a Vehicle Historic?
When the Kiernan family bought Steve McQueen’s famous Bullitt Mustang, they could tell it was a special vehicle. This makes us wonder, what exactly makes a vehicle historic? President and Founder of the Historic Vehicle Association, Mark Gessler, says the moment we landed on the moon, everyone could tell history was being made. Indeed, history is made all around us, it isn’t just the past, it’s happening right now. Mark focuses more on the human stories that go with cars, rather than just relying on serial numbers, or the death of auto manufactuers to quailfy vehicles as historic. So when Sean Kiernan decided it was time to dig Steve McQueen’s old Ford Mustang Fastback (Bullitt ‘559) out of the barn and restore its glory, Mark could tell this car had a rich and vibrant history. Learn more about what makes a vehicle historic.
[01:18:06] Barrett-Jackson Sets Records, Saves Lives
Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO, Craig Jackson, grew up restoring and developing a lifelong passion for cars. With a goal to raise awareness of the signs of stroke and fund research for heart disease, Barrett-Jackson and it’s customers have raised over a million dollars for the American Heart Association. The community has been extremely giving and caring, with some auction goers buying and re-donating the cars to the cause. Discover the philanthropic side of Barrett-Jackson.
