[00:00:00] Rapid Changes in the Automotive Hobby
We all know that the only constant is change, and the automotive world has had its fair share of changes. Hobbyists will have to decide if they will go with the flow or stick to their big engines and hearty exhausts. Alan chats with BJ Killeen about the 2017 Chevrolet Volt that he just test drove. He really liked the car, but he is used to a loud, growling motor and this car was silent. Many buyers are overlooking the Volt, and Alan thinks this is a bad idea. In this car you can drive over 80% of the time on electricity, making it extremely affordable and efficient. Are you a car enthusiast who is going to hold tightly to nostalgia, or will you become a part of the new wave of auto lovers?
[00:06:23] 2018 Lincoln Navigator Exudes Excellence
“Who are you driving?” If there was a fancy award show where vehicles cruise down the notorious red carpet and were bombarded by reporters, we know just the car you’d want. BJ Killeen, automotive journalist for The Sunday Drive, reviews the sleek design of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator. The designers did not overlook a single thing on this ride, and the quality of the wood and leather are there to prove it. They even went as far as putting plush 40 oz carpet inside the Black Label trim model. This luxury SUV exudes class, no matter the trim package. Are you ready for a glamorous ride?
[00:12:30] Expedition and Navigator Shared Platform
The chassis is the most expensive part of the machines that we drive around every day. One platform can be the base to a bevy of various vehicles. BJ Killeen, automotive journalist for The Sunday Drive, shares the differences between the perfect example of a shared chassis; the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. These two build share many similarities, but the Navigator takes it to the next level. Geared towards towing power the Expedition doesn’t have the opulent feel of the Navigator. The Black Label trim package of the Navigator offers a premium experience and even luxury service options. So, do you want beauty or utility?
[00:19:51] Utility Vehicles Replace Sedan Sales
Sales of the sedan are falling drastically, but there are cars out there that are trying to save this category. Honda recently had the global unveiling of their new Accord, and it looks good. Both the Accord and the Toyota Camry have come up with a much sportier design, and Michelle Krebbs, senior analyst at Autotrader, believes that these two cars are the last hope to save the sedan sector. As many families are transitioning to single car households and require increased utility, do you think the sedan will survive?
[00:26:52] Will Tesla Model 3 Live Up to Expectations?
It is officially in the works, the Tesla Model 3 has started production and we can’t wait to hear all about it. Alan and Michelle Krebs, Senior Analyst at Autotrader, talk about what is going on with Tesla. The Model 3 will be Tesla’s first stab at a mainstream production vehicle. With 400,000 pre-orders, the pressure is on for this company to deliver a flawless vehicle. Bodacious business man, Elon Musk, seems to know exactly what he is doing. The sexy cache that comes with the Tesla keeps demand high, and Michelle foresees a possible fleet in the future. Do you see yourself cruising on electric soon?
[00:35:51] EV Sales Less the 1% of Auto Market
Electric vehicles seem to be all the buzz these days. Technology is getting better and ‘range anxiety’ has been drastically diminished. Michelle Krebs, Senior Analyst at Autotrader, tells us why the EV market still has a long way to go. Not including Tesla, EV rides are barely moving the needle in sales, coming in at 0.4% as of June 2017. There are some large rebates out there if you are looking into an electric ride, but Michelle warns that the resale value may not be worth it. Tesla is in a category all its own, but not many can afford one just yet. Should you think twice before buying an EV?
[00:42:11] We Eagerly Await the 2020 Ford Bronco
Many hold a special place in their heart for the classic Ford Bronco of the 60s and 70s. It’s making its way back to the market and it has Bronco lovers excited. Greg Migliore, Editor-in-Chief of Autoblog, sounds off on his thoughts about the latest renderings of the 2020 Ford Bronco. Greg thinks that it will have a rough-and-ready flexible platform with similar elements to the Ford Ranger. He has seen some versions that make it look pretty retro which has encouraged some people to hold off on buying a new ride until this one hits the dealerships in 2019. What does your dream Bronco look like?
[00:48:12] Aston Martin Valkyrie and Fiat 124 Spider
Do you have an extra $3-million lying around? Sure ya do, and we know you want to buy the coolest car of the future. Greg Migliore, Editor-in-Chief of Autoblog, discusses the limited production Aston Martin Valkyrie, that has a body shape that looks like something out of Star Wars, and will only have 175 built. While we patiently wait for this epic supercar, we switch gears to something that is in the price range for the average Joe. Greg tells us about the Fiat 124 Spider, which is a rear-drive turbo roadster with a base price coming in at less than $30,000. How thick is your wallet? $30,000 or $3 million?
[00:54:42] Dodge Demon and Jeep Trackhawk Represent
Finally, it is time to start hearing about the test drives of the infamous Dodge Demon. Greg Migliore, editor-in-chief of Autotrader, talks to us about his co-worker’s test drive of the 840-HP monster. It was everything you expected it to be, and the car really looked the part. Greg believes that this was a way for FCA to pay homage to the ‘real racers’ out there. The Demon may tear up the track, but perhaps you’re looking for something a little more versatile. Don’t worry, FCA also has an SUV with some insane power. The Jeep Trackhawk houses the 707-HP Hellcat drive train and is one of the most robust SUVs out there. Are you craving horsepower? Tune in now.
